I have a little over 6 years of experience in the cosmetology industry and my operator’s license here in Texas. Currently I am a hair stylist at a local salon. With my clients I like to focus on at home care and tips for healthy hair. Below are some suggestions that I have seen results with not only for myself but for my clients as well.
1. When purchasing shampoo and conditioner search for a brand that meets your goals. Meaning if you color your hair, look for a sulfate free or color safe option. For example Paul Mitchell Color Protect, Redken Color Extend, etc. Using a product specifically formulated for colored hair will aid in shine, longevity of color, and other benefits. It is also helpful if you change your shampoo and conditioner every three months. This is beneficial because after prolonged use of a product you stop seeing results.
2. If you blow-dry, straighten, curl, or do any other styling to your hair that uses heat invest in a heat protectant. This will protect your hair from breakage that can occur from excessive heat and other environmental stresses. I suggest Redken Iron Shape 11,
it protects your hair strands from heat up to 450 degrees! Almost every brand carries at thermal protecting spray. Kenra thermal styling spray, has a firm hold which helps lock in the style to last longer.
3. Deep conditioners are important because they replenish the hair of nutrients lost from heat, chemical services, and environmental damages. Regular conditioners only coat the outside layer of the hair. They do not penetrate the cuticle(1st layer) of your hair. Deep conditioners when used as instructed deliver keratin(protein), moisture, and other benefits. I suggest its a 10 miracle deep conditioner with keratin, Redken Frizz Dismiss Mask, and Shea Moisture is another great product, in my opinion on the more affordable side.
***These tips are based off of my knowledge of the cosmetology industry and the research I have done to find hair care products that restore the hair strands.
